Acclaimed Composer/Video Artist Gary Gunn explores the lives of intriguing figures via one-on-one sittings in a pursuit to interpret their inner nature into singularized musical compositions. These intimate, mindful, and candid encounters are filmed by Gunn then later married with the corresponding soundtrack to create individual audiovisual works depicting each subject; spawning multimedia creations that are unparalleled in traditional portraiture and contemporary music.

GARY GUNN

Composer. Video Artist. Storyteller. 

Gary Gunn is an acclaimed composer & music producer/curator noted for his genre-defying musical aesthetic & forward-thinking application of sound. Oprah personally selected him for her inaugural Super Soul 100 list, honoring ”a collection of 100 awakened leaders who are using their voices to elevate humanity.”

 

Gunn has collaborated on cutting-edge, interactive installations (including virtual & augmented reality projects) at TED, SXSW, Moogfest, & Palais de Tokyo. He has also composed original soundtracks for a host of critically heralded art installations in Paris, Beijing, Moscow, Los Angeles, & Jarkarta, including Hope & Glory (then touted one of the largest in Hong Kong's history).  Most recently, he served as the chief composer for the 150K sq. ft. LA exhibition, The 14th Factory, having scored and sound designed the entire walk-through of the space. One of the collaborative works, Tannhauser, was recently acquired by LACMA to be added to their collection. Another, Bermacide Feast, was exhibited at The Smithsonian’s National Air & Space Museum. He’s been tapped by brands such as Sonos, Pandora, Nike, Intel, Google, & Dell for his singular sonic vision & was commissioned to design the sound for the 2015 NBC/Universal Upfronts at the Javitz Center.

 

Gunn has a budding  & enviable resume scoring award-winning films—including official selections at Sundance, Tribeca, & Cannes film festivals—and has created original music for TV series, including Showtime's Emmy-nominated Sleeper Cell & AMC's Fear the Walking Dead. He is also a pioneering music curator, as profiled in The Wall Street Journal's The Search For The Perfect Playlist, having provided soundtracks to millions through various outlets including Songza, RISD Museum, The Darden Group, & Google Play. In 2018, Summit Air selected him as an artist in residence.
